We all know a powerful way to express ourselves and improve our health is through movement.
Movement comes in many forms: walking the dog, cleaning the house, going for a run, and so on.
But let’s face it, most of us have, at some point, been given a regimented exercise routine by a personal trainer or healthcare professional.
We’re told to target certain muscles, stabilise this, stretch that, activate something else…
Don’t get me wrong, these exercises are prescribed with good intentions. However, I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly guilty of sticking with them for a few days, maybe even a week or two. Then life gets in the way.
Priorities shift in the hustle of day-to-day life. And let’s be honest, they can feel dull and repetitive, making it all too easy for those habits to fall by the wayside.
So, is there a way to move your body, improve your health, and have fun?
I’m so glad you asked.
Yes, there absolutely is.
This, my good reader, is my movement prescription to you:
First, head over to your phone, stereo, Bluetooth speaker, boombox, record player (for those of you with a penchant for all things retro), or anything capable of playing your favourite music.
Second, crank it up until the sound takes over.
Third, Dance.
Dance like nobody’s watching.
Flail your arms in the air and wave them like you just don’t care. Swing your hips. Bob side to side. Go wherever the rhythm takes you. Be fully in the moment. Boogie your way to better health.
The benefits of dancing stretch far beyond simple movement. It can:
And perhaps most importantly, it reminds us that movement doesn’t have to feel like a chore.
Sometimes the best exercise plan isn’t a structured routine.
Sometimes, it’s just pressing play.
With love,
Bill
