Get Uncomfortable to Get Comfy

So, this last week I had a bit of a wake-up call and realisation. My health was not where it should be. As you all know, I like to work hard, travel and say ‘yes’ to so many projects so long as they align with my vision to help inspire others to better health.

However, in the process of working hard, I forgot to work on myself. Sure, I was still going to the gym and eating well, but I wasn’t prioritising it. I would rush the gym and have the odd snack… cookies!

But I realised this and decided to do something about it. I think we all know when our health slips, and if you are like me, you can easily brush it under the carpet and prioritise other things as an excuse to not commit to your health or make you feel better for not doing the right things.

So, here is my challenge for you. Get uncomfortable.

What I mean by this is not necessarily to get uncomfortable in heavy workouts and eating foods you don’t like, but get uncomfortable in being selfish and putting you first.

Commit to one hour a day self-time! And I know we all have jobs and families that we think should come first, however I am going to say this knowing it will make some of you feel uneasy. But if you don’t put you first, you’re jeopardising the help you can give others. Say you’re a mother and you give all your time to the family. What happens when you become sick?

So, commit to just one hour a day for you. This could be 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. It could be four 15-minute blocks or one hour. If you need to get up earlier do so. But take this time to move, hydrate, think and look after you.

This whole notion came to me after I had been advised by my nutritionist to start using the sauna. I initially thought of this as a waste of time, just sitting there when I could be working or doing something more important. However, when my regular check in came and I noticed by body fat increasing due to stress and not putting myself first, I decided enough was enough. I now take the time to sauna 3 times a week, this was really hard at the start, my mind racing thinking I should be doing something else, however the forced rest has really started to pay off. I’m healthier, happier and in a much better place and so much comfier.

The saying goes; ‘growth occurs outside our comfort zone’. Make a commitment to you today. Get comfortable and prioritise number one first!
