Healing Takes Time

We’ve all heard it, but we don’t want to believe it. The modern world has convinced us that we can “feel” better instantly, and that in itself is healing.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. To feel better isn’t to heal better. If you’ve ever banged your elbow, cut your finger, or broken a bone, you know full well it hurts!

But give it a little time and take a few pills, and it starts to feel better.

My question, is it now healed?

No, is the obvious answer. It takes months, weeks for cuts and bruises to heal.

So let’s take from this the fundamental truth, healing takes time.

But how long I hear you say?

It is estimated that it takes about 18 months for organ regeneration. So knowing that, we can understand that 18 months is the realistic time frame for true healing.

However, this is with a well-functioning body that is ready to heal. One that is not chronically inflamed, fatigued, or already sick.

I’m sorry to break that to you.

Alas, there is something you can do to speed it up and help yourself. That is to create an environment for healing, this is choosing what you put in your body (food and drink) as well as how you spend your time.

Here are my Top 3 Tips to speed up healing:

1.     Positive outlook

There are many references and studies that show a positive outlook will promote healing. Yes, the placebo is essential for getting well. Simple ways to boost your positive output are to think of 3 things you’re grateful for each morning and night. Also, limit your time with negative people and stop watching the news.

2.     Proteins and fats

The building blocks of the human body, good quality meat proteins and fats promote healing. Fish, game and offal, as well as some plant-based fats in olive and avocado.

3.     Move

Moving the body circulates blood and lymph, which are essential for getting the ‘right stuff’ to the site of injury and promoting recovery.

So there you have it. Healing takes time, acceptance, and some hard work, and you’ll come back a better you.

With love,

Tom
