How Do You Choose to Fill Your Cup?

I feel very privileged to meet people from many walks of life in my job and the older I become; I see certain patterns of behaviour in all of us.

One commonality we all share is the spill.

A spill is when we try to do too much, our cup gets full and inevitably overflows and spills. With such busy lives, we tend to care so much about others and often don’t put ourselves first in our needs. The truth is we can’t take care of others without taking care of ourselves.

We don’t often notice when our cup is getting full, we push and push until our actions and words often come out not as we intended. Short tempered, aggravated easily, increased blood pressure, sleep reduced, the list goes on and on. However, as individuals we need to reflect on those signs. Paying more attention can allow your body and mind more clarity to take care of those you love the most, including you.

Remember whatever is inside YOU will eventually spill out if you keep topping it up, stress, love, resentment, kindness, our thoughts are different for all of us in how we see life and expect life to be. Ultimately, we have to ask ourselves…“what do I keep filling my cup with?”

Life can be challenging, but as Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”.

Challenge yourself today to do just one thing differently, speak to your child from a place of kindness, we were all children once. Make your partner a cup of tea when they least expect it, go for that walk when it’s pouring down. Say hello to someone in a supermarket and ask how they are.

Life provides the cup; you choose how to fill it.

With love,

John
