With Valentines around the corner, what better topic to consider than Heart Health.
When did you last consider that muscle that beats non-stop, 24hours a day for your entire life? Sitting underneath your ribs a little to the left of the midline. A remarkable design, here are some fun facts for you:
Quite a remarkable feat of engineering I am sure you will agree.
But here are two remarkable facts that I hope catch your attention:
What does that tell us?
That we often neglect the health of our heart until it is too late, literally not coming back from it. And secondly, that stress probably has the biggest impact on our heart health, with most people ‘literally dying to go to work’… (forgive my stale humour, and I hope this isn’t the case for the Epoch team).
The good news is that being at Epoch and making chiropractic a part of your lifestyle can go a long way to helping your heart health.
How so?
Have you considered what causes your heart to beat? What controls the dilation and constriction of blood vessels, what increases the heart rate? The nerves, your brain, the nervous system of course.
Your brain and its messaging through your spinal cord and via your vagus nerve has the biggest impact on your heart health, for the better or worse.
If your body is in a constant state of ‘fight and flight’ then your risk of heart attack is higher. As chiropractors we do nothing about your heart health. But what we can help your body to do is regulate better, to manage stress and therefore send more appropriate signalling to your heart long term.
With a better functioning spine and nervous system through regular chiropractic, you can be happy that your body will be less likely to get the ‘Monday morning’ grim reaper.
And on top of that, with your regular visits comes a regular reminder to put your health first. With that said, ask yourself what else could you be doing to avoid the first sign of a heart attack…
Think, movement, water, exercise, diet. Let me know what you come up with.
With love,
Tom
