World Relaxation Day might sound like a novelty, but behind the concept lies something serious: we’re not very good at relaxing.
Chronic stress is one of the most widespread health issues of our time. It affects everything from sleep and digestion to immune response and pain. One of the best ways to measure how well your body handles stress is heart rate variability (HRV), a marker of nervous system resilience. We measure this at Epoch with that clip on your ear, do you remember? It should give us a nice smooth wave pattern, how was yours?
The higher your HRV, the better your body can switch between fight-or-flight and rest-and-digest modes. The lower your HRV, the more you’re stuck in survival mode.
That’s where chiropractic comes in.
Subluxations in the spine interfere with communication between the brain and body. When we restore proper motion and alignment, we ease the stress signals bombarding your nervous system. Over time, this can lead to better HRV, improved mood, deeper sleep, and a calmer, more adaptable body. This is why chiropractic is a huge component in long term and lasting health (not just pain).
Relaxation isn’t just about lighting a candle or taking a bath. It’s about giving your nervous system the chance to truly reset.
So if you feel wired, tired, or like you just can’t switch off, maybe it’s time to check your spine.
With love,
Tom
