Spring Into Gardening and Enhance Your Health!

Spring is finally here and it’s an excellent time to get into gardening, planting, and all things outdoors!

It’s great to see so many avid gardeners at Epoch, the movement it creates is brilliant for the spine, and growing your own fruit and vegetables is amazing for your body!

If you can remember those ‘3 Ts’ of stress (subluxation), we have Thoughts, Traumas and Toxins. Well, you will be pleased to know that gardening can help with all 3!

I’m a huge advocate for gardening, it ticks all the boxes for natural health and wellness. However, just be sure to look after yourself when doing so, staying hydrated is key!

Here are a few reasons why gardening is so good for your health!

Firstly, being out in the fresh air, with no TV or phone to distract you helps to create clarity within the mind and allows you to be with your thoughts. This provides a huge relief for your brain and takes you away from the stress of screens and media.

Secondly, it gets you moving, and in all sorts of ways! Lifting pots, planting seeds, shovelling soil, it’s a whole-body workout! Whilst this is a great way to create movement for the body, it is important to take it steady with regular breaks and factor in some stretches to warm up before any lifting.

Lastly, we have toxins, this is what goes into your body, which for most of us is food and water. Luckily for the gardeners out there, it often involves picking some healthy vegetables fresh from your own patch. Growing your own vegetables takes away any worry of any pesticides being used, and you know exactly what you’re getting when you harvest. Your digestive system will be very thankful to you.

Here’s a little summary:

  • Gardening allows you to switch off from the outside world and be with your own thoughts, clear your mind.
  • It creates movement for your body and spine, but be sure to stretch and mobilise before any lifting and take regular breaks (and drink plenty of water).
  • Helps to reduce toxins. Enjoy your delicious fruit and vegetables knowing exactly where they came from.

And if you don’t have a garden, don’t worry. Venturing to your local parks to get some fresh air and movement will still do you wonders.

With love,

Lewis
