Stay Aligned Through the Festive Frenzy: Stress, Subluxations & Simple Fixes

December can feel like a sprint. School plays, last-minute shopping, parties, travel, wrapping, cooking, all the lovely festive chaos that can leave your nervous system frazzled. When stress rises, posture drops. Shoulders round, breathing shallows, and the spine starts to carry more tension than it should.

This is the perfect recipe for subluxations to sneak in.

We talk about physical, chemical, and emotional stressors, and December gives us all three. Long days on your feet, richer food, more sugar than usual, disrupted routines… and that feeling of needing to get “everything” done before the year ends.

Here’s the good news: a few incredibly simple habits can keep you aligned and feeling more like yourself.

1. Start your day with a ‘posture check’.

Stand tall, breathe deeply, open your chest. It signals safety to your nervous system and resets your alignment. And yes, when you’re watching the Vicar of Dibley on Christmas day (as my wife forces me to do…) make sure to stand up regularly and reset that posture!

2. Break the stress cycle with movement.

A 5-minute walk, some spine mobility, or even dancing in the kitchen helps your brain switch gears. Before it get’s stressful, bring the mood up with a dance. This is what you’ll find me doing round the kitchen this holiday!

3. Don’t skip your adjustments.

In the busy season, people often cancel the exact appointments that would help them cope. Regular care helps your nervous system process stress more effectively so you stay centred, not scattered. Be sure to go on your app and get an appointment before we break up!

4. Protect your sleep.

Your brain does its best healing work at night. Give it a chance. This means no sugar and alcohol too close to bed time. Sorry!

Remember: festive fun is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. Take care of your body and it’ll take care of you through the whirlwind.

With love,
Tom
