The Spinal Secrets of a Happy Cyclist

There’s nothing quite like cycling. Whether it’s a weekend ride through the countryside or commuting to work, getting on two wheels is one of my favourite ways to move.

But let’s be honest, cycling isn’t always spine-friendly.

Hunched shoulders, forward head posture, and constant pressure on the lower back can all add up. Many cyclists don’t realise how much strain builds over time until it shows up as pain, tension, or even numbness in the hands or feet.

That’s where chiropractic comes in.

Regular chiropractic adjustments help restore balance and motion to the spine and pelvis, keeping your nervous system firing on all cylinders. When your posture is aligned and your joints are moving well, your body can handle the demands of cycling with more ease and less wear-and-tear.

As a chiropractor (and someone who tries to spend a lot of time in the saddle), here are three quick tips for spinal-friendly cycling:

  1. Check your bike fit – Even small changes to saddle height or handlebar reach can make a big difference.
  2. Stretch post-ride – Focus on hip flexors, hamstrings, and the thoracic spine.
  3. Listen to your body – Numbness, stiffness, or recurring pain are signs something needs attention.

Cycling should make you feel free, not fragile. If your spine is getting in the way of your ride, let’s chat.

With love,

Tom
