I was out for a walk early this morning and I noticed the light was just a bit different. You know that feeling when the air changes and you can almost sense the earth shifting gears?
It’s like nature is taking a big, deep breath and getting ready for what’s next. I’ve always found that these transitions, whether we’re heading into the crispness of autumn or the first blooms of spring, are the perfect time to check in with ourselves.
We often wait for January 1st to make changes, don’t we? We put so much pressure on that one day in the middle of winter. But I’ve noticed that the change of a season offers a much more natural kind of momentum.
It’s an invitation to look at our habits and ask: “Is what I’m doing right now serving the person I want to be in three months’ time?”
Your body is incredibly clever, but it’s also part of this natural world. As the seasons shift, your nervous system has to work a little harder to help you adapt to different temperatures, light levels, and activity patterns.
If your “internal wiring”, what we call the nervous system, is clear and free from interference, you glide through these changes. But if there’s tension or “stuckness” in your spine, those seasonal shifts can feel a bit more like a struggle. You might feel more tired, a bit stiffer, or just not quite “on it.”
I often tell people in the practice that health isn’t a destination you reach and then stop. It’s more like a garden. You don’t just plant it once and walk away; you tend to it as the weather changes.
So, as we move into this new season, I want to encourage you to pick just one small thing. Don’t try to overhaul your entire life by Monday; that’s the quickest way to burn out.
Maybe it’s committing to a ten-minute walk to soak up the morning light. Maybe it’s finally booking that chiropractic check-up to make sure your spine is moving as it should. Or perhaps it’s just drinking an extra glass of water before your morning coffee.
These small, consistent “votes” for your health are what build your capacity. They ensure that you aren’t just surviving the change in season, but actually thriving through it.
I’m right there with you, by the way. I’m currently working on my own morning routine to make sure I’m showing up as the best version of myself for my family and for all of you. It’s not about being perfect; it’s just about staying in the game.
Your body has an amazing ability to heal and adapt when it’s given the right environment. Let’s use the energy of this new season to give it exactly what it needs.
I’d love to hear what your “one thing” is going to be this week. Next time you’re in the centre, let’s have a chat about it.
With love,
Tom
