Have you ever been driving along, enjoying the music and the open road, when suddenly a little red light pops up on your dashboard?
It’s annoying, isn’t it? Your first instinct might be to wish it would just go away so you can get back to your journey without that nagging glow. You might even be tempted to put a bit of tape over it so you don’t have to look at it anymore.
But we both know that the light isn’t the problem. The light is the warning. It’s your car’s way of telling you that something under the bonnet needs a little love before a small issue becomes a big breakdown.
Back pain works exactly the same way.
I know how frustrating it is when your back feels stiff or a sharp twinge stops you from picking up your grandkids or enjoying your morning run. It’s easy to view that pain as the “enemy” or the thing that’s broken.
But here’s the truth: your body is incredibly smart. It doesn’t just hurt for the sake of it. That ache is actually your nervous system’s way of saying, “Hey, I’m struggling to adapt here, and I need some help!”
In the practice, we often see people who are frustrated because their back “suddenly” gave out. But when we look closer, that area has usually been under stress for a long time.
We call these areas of interference subluxations. They are spots where the communication between your brain and your body has become a bit garbled. Your body has been trying to compensate and work around it, but eventually, it runs out of steam. The pain is just the final signal that it’s reached its limit.
If we only focus on silencing the pain, perhaps with a pill or by just resting and hoping for the best, it’s like putting that tape over the dashboard light. The signal might go away for a while, but the underlying “stuckness” is still there, quietly affecting how you move and feel.
I want to encourage you to change how you look at those aches and pains. Instead of seeing them as a nuisance, try seeing them as a vital conversation your body is trying to have with you.
When we perform an adjustment, we aren’t just “fixing” a sore back. We are clearing that interference and restoring the connection. We’re telling your nervous system that it’s safe to let go of that tension and start healing properly.
It’s about moving from just “getting rid of the red light” to making sure the whole engine is running smoothly. When your spine is clear and your nervous system is communicating well, you don’t just feel better. You function better.
So, if your body has been whispering (or shouting) at you lately, don’t ignore the messenger. It’s just your inner wisdom asking for a little support so you can get back to living your life to the fullest.
I’m here to help you listen to what your body is saying and get things moving in the right direction again.
With love,
Tom
