Pills, potions, and lotions are the way we look to treat things in the modern world. But do they fill us with a false hope and unrealistic expectations?
Allopathy means the ‘opposite of suffering’, this medical approach to wellbeing aims to make us feel better. Which is great, but does it set us up for failure?
I mean if I gave you a pill that stopped the pain, but you kept your hand on the stove, I think we’ll both agree, the outcome would not be pretty.
Chiropractic has a different approach. We will help you take your hand off the stove and accept that for a time there may still be some pain as the body is healing.
When you come to us with pain, we don’t just ask ‘what’ is happening, we ask ‘why’? This question gives us a better answer, and with that answer we can go about, not just making you feel better, but making you heal better.
The focus of chiropractic on your spine is a deliberate one, not for the health of the bones alone, but for what they are protecting, your nervous system (brain and spinal cord).
We know that the nervous system controls and coordinates all other function of the body, therefore, when looking to help you heal better, the first place to look is the nervous system!
Each time you have an adjustment with your chiropractor, it puts an input into your nervous system, via the spine. A reminder to the brain to check in with your body and fire up all systems.
Essentially your brain lights up after an adjustment, this has been shown clearly on functional MRI scans. As such your body lights up and goes to work healing and repairing you more effectively and more efficiently.
Notice, I did not say it instantly blocks or stops pain. This may linger, it may go, but no matter how you feel, after every single adjustment you have, your body will be performing better.
I’d love to know any positive changes you have seen aside from pain, with your care here at Epoch.
With love, Tom
