'Sickness' or 'Expressing Health'?

Did I get ‘sick’ or was I ‘expressing health’?

Firstly, a huge thank you to all my patients who graciously rescheduled and received their adjustments from Joyce and James. I appreciate your understanding when I took some time off last week.

Yes, for those unaware I actually got sick!

Or did I?

The human body is a remarkable thing that is able to withstand great pressures, be pushed in harsh environments, and grow stronger each time. So, why is it that when we get ‘sick’ with a cold or flu, do we think our body has failed us and is not strong enough?

We have been conditioned to think of having symptoms of cold or flu as being ‘sick’ and weak. When I would argue the exact opposite.

We are constantly exposed to bugs, germs, bacteria, and viruses.

Our immune system is always on guard and ready to fight. So, when it is in a fight, why do we try and stop it?

Symptoms of cold and flu include a cough, a runny nose, sneezing, streaming eyes and congestion. All of which are manifestations of a healthy and active immune system. One that is setting up a barrier against the invading bugs (snot and mucus) and doing its best to expel them (sneezing and runny eyes and nose).

So, the question comes, should we take remedies and drugs to stop these symptoms?

Maybe stopping them will allow the bugs to set in more and slow your recovery?

I’m not regulated to tell you what you should and shouldn’t do with regards taking medication.

All I would suggest is to listen to your body, trust it is doing the right thing for you. And next time you have the symptoms of a cold or flu, thank your body for being healthy and fighting for you. Don’t tell yourself you’re sick but congratulate yourself for having a health expression.

And here are my TOP THREE TIPS for a natural approach to making those health expressions easier.

1.    Lemon and honey. Soothing and alkalising, this warm drink can aid your recovery.

2.    Slow down. Don’t stop completely, but slow down to allow your body to divert its energy to healing.

3.    Resist temptation. It’s so tempting to binge and consume for comfort, but sugary and sweet foods drive inflammation and slow healing. Stick to the good wholesome foods.

Good luck out there.

With love,

Tom
