Support Your Body And Immune System With These Tips!

Why is it that every time we have a week off or a holiday we tend to get ill as soon as we ‘switch off’? Isn’t it frustrating?

There’s always a reason why we get sick, and sometimes we have ourselves to blame; I know, it’s a tough pill to swallow! Our immune system is telling us to STOP, rest, and heal for a minute to allow our body to adapt and recover, so we should thank our body for getting ill, but we should also listen and take regular rests!

But what if you’re getting ill regularly and always seem to have a cold or sniffly nose? This may be your body telling you it’s not adapting or healing well at the moment, it just can’t get on top of stress. Remember stress comes in 3 forms, physical, emotional, and chemical, and when all of that becomes too much, your body says, “I need some rest”, and gives you an illness or some symptoms like pain, for example. When your body rests through intentional rest or sleep, it heals and energises itself ready for the next day of stress. Therefore, try to get over 7 hours of good sleep and reset your mind before bed (a simple way to do this is to read a book and stay away from your phone!).

Did you know that around 60% of your immune system resides in your gut? Therefore, ensuring you are consuming healthy foods and plenty of water is important not only for your energy but also for your immune system. Regular exercise and reducing alcohol intake will help to improve the immune system too, and they’re simple things we can all be a little bit better at!

All of these equate to the body's ability to ADAPT to its surroundings, which is also what Chiropractic care helps to promote with your spine and nervous system.

Here are my top tips for immune system health:

●        Eat a balanced and healthy diet.

●        Drink over 2.5 litres of water daily.

●        Take regular rest periods/breaks/holidays to allow your body the rest it needs.

●        Get 7+ hours of sleep at night and switch off your phone by 9pm!

●        Incorporate regular exercise.

Focusing on these areas will help to keep your immune system happy! And if you are combining these tips with your regular chiropractic visits, you will be supporting your body to work at its best.
